January - Autobiography

My name is Juanito Laguna. I'm twelve. I live in the street. I am an orphan. Nobody cares for me. I like playing football and I have lots of friends. But my dream is to have a family. Every morning I get up and walk around looking for more friends.
I have got short brown hair and brown eyes. I am tall and slim. I am very weak and I am very strong at the same time.
I would like to eat chicken, sausages, hamburgers, pizza but I don't eat every day.
I don't want to live in this neighbourhood because it is ugly, dirty and dangerous.
I would like to leave this place but here is the river.... I know it is dirty... I shouldn't bathe in it... but I can't help remaining near the river, I'love it!!!
Mariana Puchetta - Laura Vasallo - Maximiliano Cerutti - Horacio Guaragna 7° B

February - Juanito's character - A letter

Juanito Laguna Buenos Aires, August 18th. 1999
Dear Maggie, I want to tell you about an extraordinary experience I had. Last week I met a singular character. His name is Juanito Laguna. He lives on Isla Maciel. He is very thin but healthy. He is about twelve years old.I was very surprised at his intelligence. His language is rather poor but he talks sense. He is a little rascal but he has a heart of gold. He can give his only coin to a poor beggar and the next moment laugh at him with his friends. He might share the little food with another boy and then play with the other boys.I think his life is full of adventures and excitement. I wanted to follow him. But he is too cautious. He knew I wanted to talk to him and he ran away. I don't think I'll ever see him again. What a pity! Love

March - Juanito Laguna's dream

Juanito LagunaJuanito was an orphan and he was very poor. He used to dream about having a bike. He always stopped in front of a toyshop window and, looking at the bikes, he moaned. Once a man that was passing by, hearing him complaining and sobbing, asked him:"- What's your name? I'm Juanito Laguna- Why are you crying?- Because I want a bike and I have no money, he mumbled.- The man thought for a while and said, "Wait here, please. I'll come back soon. He returned with a brilliant red bike and gave it to Juanito. He was astonished. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. He started laughing and, mounting his bike, he rode away.

April - Juanito Laguna and his kite

Juanito Laguna Once Juanito was flying a kite. Suddenly it began to rain. There was a flash of lightning and a deafening clasp of thunder was heard. The kite was struck by lightning and his hand was hurt.Juanito ran to the river to ease the pain of his hand. He put a bandage on it and decided to sell kites instead of flying them. He needed money to buy a new jacket because he did not want to feel cold any more.Camila FigueroaAelín Lemelleit Yamila Ferreiro

May - High Risk

Juanito Laguna Once Juanito Laguna was playing hide and seek with some friends near the river. Suddenly they got lost. Trying to find their way home, they found a heap of rubbish. They decided to search for something useful to sell. Juanito cut his hand with a rusty tin. His friends took him to the hospital, where doctors cured his injured hand.

June - Juanito in tears - Juanito Laguna

Juanito Laguna is very sensitive. He's too young, he's at an impressionable age. Sometimes he becomes emotional. He's looking out of the window. He sees an old man searching the garbage for food. He feels miserable. He can't help weeping and suffering.
Diaz de Maura, Sofía  -Lloveras, Sofía A.

uly - Juanito and his house

JuanitoIt is springtime. The night is warm. Juanito is in his garden. He looks at his trees. He planted them some time ago. He has watered and looked after them. Now they are big and strong.Juanito is proud and he is pleased with himself. He smiles.

August - Juanito likes fishing

Juanito His name was Juanito Laguna. He lived on Maciel Island. His house was made of cardboard and tins and it was near the river. He gathered old newspapers to sell them and get some money. He went fishing, just for sport. At weekends he played football. At night he sat near the river and dreamed. In winter he looked for wood to make a fire. It is so cold near the river!

Septembre - Juanito Laguna's dream

Juanito Laguna
Juanito loves Rigoberta. He is twelve, she is fourteen. He loves her deeply."She is the most beautiful girl in the world", he thinks. - "Hi, Juanito!" Rigoberta says and pats his head affectionately. Juanito feels in heaven.
Sivori, Gisell  7° B

October - Juanito in the cave Juanito Laguna

Juanito is very curious. Once while exploring the riverside he found a cave.He examined it and saw a series of tunnels. He crept along one and discovered lots of prehistoric stones. Full of joy he started playing with them. Then he heard voices. He hid behind some big stones and he peeped. He recognised a pair of well-known thieves they were burying stolen things. He stayed motionless until they left. Then he ran away and called the police 7° Grado A

November -Biography

Juanito Laguna is an orphan. He is dirty and lonely. He can't read or write. He is tall and very, very thin. he lives near the river. He always sits on its bank and looks at the brownish water and the old ship anchored there. he dreams about visiting the big city. One day his dream comes true. he visits the zoo, he goes to MacDonald and he feels that life is wonderful

December - Juanito's character

Juanito LagunaA reporter is collecting information about Juanito. - Good morning sir. Do you know Juanito Laguna?- Of course I do. - What can you tell me about him? - Oh! That's really difficult! He doesn't go to school very often, so he can't read or write very well. He is good at math! Yes, he is really good at sums. - So he is intelligent! - Well, I wouldn't say he is bright. He is witty. He has such a sense of humor! It's very funny to talk to him. - What does he do all day long? - He seldom goes to school. Most of the time he wanders along the riverside. Yes, sir. He loves the river. - Does he ever fish or swim? - Yes, from time to time. He is always looking for adventures but very often he gets into trouble. - That's too bad! - Sure but he is a jolly good fellow, you bet! - Well, thank you very much.

Crazy animals and other activities for teaching young learners
Edited by Fiona Copland and Sue Garton with Monika Davis
This is a book for primary school teachers of English written by primary school teachers of English. It brings together the experience and expertise of teachers from around the world to provide a range of stimulating and exciting classroom activities for the primary classroom.  There are 50 tried and trusted activities which have been refined and improved over the years by teachers working in diverse  contexts and environments. Children will enjoy practising their English through these stimulating and motivating activities.
Over 1 000 teachers were contacted and asked to send their favourite activities for teaching English to young learners.  The most original and creative activities received were selected for this book. This book grew out of an Aston University - British Council research project called ‘Investigating Global Practices in Teaching English to Young Learners’.
This publication is free to download. Please note this is a large file, and may take time to download.
